About Us
Originally from Bruce Mines, owner Melissa Hughes, jokes that her parents ruined her life by moving her to another small town when she was 15.
She started washing dishes at the local restaurant and worked her way up the years to management positions and working around the world. She eventually came back to the Algoma region and completed a business degree at Algoma University and started working there after completing her degree.
Working as a Coordinator in Student Services and loving her job, she always missed the hospitality industry and saw a niche market opportunity for a cafe in her hometown of Bruce Mines.
She left her job at the university, moved back to Bruce Mines, bought a building and made her vision a reality! With hearty homemade soups, hearty paninis and roasting her own coffee, the Copper Bean Cafe is the place to stop and enjoy the unique atmosphere and friendly faces!
